LYF (Lutheran Youth Fellowship) News

The LYF is made up of youth from Confirmation through high school age and is comprised of members from St. Mark and Incarnate Word.  We include devotion or bible study in each of our events to remind our young people that this is as much about spiritual enrichment as it is about Christian fellowship of the young people of our 2 worshiping bodies.  Please contact the Youth Leader, Deb Baldwin at 770-564-2207 (home) or 770-296-4643 (cell) if you have any questions or know of a student in Middle or High School that you think would benefit from joining our group.

UPCOMING EVENT:  January 10, 2010, Planning meeting for Baked Potato Dinner

We will have a brief meeting on Sunday, January 10^th at noon to pass out food assignments for our Baked Potato Dinner the following Sunday.  All youth are requested to be in attendance.  If you are not able to attend, we will call you and advise what you are to bring the following Sunday.

UPCOMING EVENT:  January 17, 2010, Baked Potato Fundraiser

Back by popular demand, our 2^nd Annual Baked Potato Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, January 17^th.  The Youth will provide a wonderful luncheon of baked potatoes with assorted toppings, salad bar and assorted desserts.  All youth are requested to participate in this fundraiser to offset expenses for the 2010 National Youth Gathering and various local youth activities.

UPCOMING EVENT:  February 7, 2010, Fun, Games & Planning meeting

All Youth group members and parents are invited to join us for this planning meeting to set a preliminary schedule of events for the year.  We need everyone to bring their calendar and their ideas to share.  Youth, please bring your favorite board game to play following the meeting.

EVENT REPORT:  Christmas Candy, Cards & Caroling

On December 6^th, 9 LYF members and several adults enjoyed a wonderful afternoon making Christmas Candy and Cards.  The students tried their hands at a couple new candy recipes as well as the old favorite of dipping pretzels and Ritz bits.  Many thanks to Ms. Anne Kunz and Mrs. Karen Wenndt for lending a helping hand in the kitchen.  Following our candy making, several church members joined the remaining 6 youth members to go Christmas Caroling to our shut-in members.  We broke into two groups and caroled to 4 different homes, and then we all ended up at the seniors home of Ms. Billie Lary in Decatur to sing to all of their residents.  Our students distributed Christmas cards and bags of candy they had prepared to the shut-ins that we visited.  It was another fun day of making Christmas memories.

2^nd ANNUAL LYF BAKED POTATO FUNDRAISER

All members are invited to join us for the 2^nd annual baked potato dinner on Sunday, January 17^th, 2010.  We will be providing baked potatoes and toppings such as butter, sour cream, chili, broccoli, cheese, bacon, taco meat and more.  In addition, we will have a salad bar filled with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and assorted vegetables & salad dressings.  An assortment of desserts will also be available.  Tea, Coffee & water will be provided to drink. A free will donation of $5 for adults and $3 for students is requested.  

Please join us for this fundraiser that will help us to offset costs associated with the 2010 LCMS National Youth Gathering being held July 17-21, in New Orleans, LA and local youth events.  Invite your family & friends to come and help support our youth!
